Project Brief
“How would Polestar as a car brand design an electric bicycle if they entered the bicycle market ?”.
Analysis
Brand History
The brand history of Polestar is intertwined with Volvo.
Essence of the brand
The essence of the brand defines what,how,why of the brand basically addressing the mission and vision of the brand.
Brand Positioning
Polestar is a tech-savvy company which focuses on innovation by technology and design. Polestar focuses on young, mid aged adults who are usually business professionals.
Brand Guidelines
Behind Polestar's design principles are three main elements: pure, progressive and performance (Journal 1, 2018).
Volvo vs Polestar
Since,Polestar engineered many cars for volvo,it is best to analyse the similarities and differences between two brands.
Brand identity Prism
The Kapferer Brand Identity Prism (Kapferer, 2008) was used to describe Polestar's character and identity. This model clarifies what a brand stands for, its brand identity.
DFA
To dive deeper into the explicit characteristics of the brand Polestar, a DFA analysis is done to discover the typical design features which has been repeated within Polestar’s product portfolio

From the brand translation prism, three brand values emerged: minimalistic, elegance, and performance.
Design
2D Design
The idea development of the 2D design starts with a brainstorming session. Using illustrator, different colors, lines and graphics are added on the existing frame.

2D conceptualisation
There will be two graphics on the frame. The first is a white square with the text Navigator. The text will be placed on the front.
The second graphic is the text Navigator 1 with some specifications. The side of the car also has the name of the car and specifications
Final 2D Design
The final 2D design combines the aforementioned elements along the grill.
Prototype-2D Design
A prototype of final 2D design was made with a physical frame.
3D Design
The 3D design is ideated on broader scale. The ideas are generated with maintaining explicit and implicit cues of Polestar.

2.5D
Within the final design, a number of design features have been used that can be seen as 2.5D design.
Design Lines
Various lines are incorporated in final design.
Verification
Six implicit and explicit cues representing Polestar were chosen to verify the design.
Conclusion
The final design incorporates all aspects from the 2D, 2.5D and 3D design. With the final design extra thought is given the design lines of the car.
